September 11th Oka Kapassa Festival Event

September 11th, 2:00 pm

In honor of the 2010 Oka Kapassa Festival, the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library is hosting a lecture on the Native American heritage of the Shoals. Dr. Chris Haveman, an Auburn alum and Assistant Professor of History at the University of West Alabama, will discuss the journey of the Creek nation as they passed through local towns such as Tuscumbia, Florence, Courtland, and Waterloo. This event is sponsored by the Alabama Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association.

The Oka Kapassa Festival is an annual Native American gathering held in Spring Park in Tuscumbia.
